D’Youville University has prepared occupational therapists for more than 20 years, starting with one of the nation’s first combined BS/MS OT programs. We’ve offered an MS in Occupational Therapy since 2001, and a post-professional OTD since 2021.
Now we’re bringing that experience to our new entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. It’s designed for students who want doctoral-level preparation from the start. This hybrid, 36-month program pairs online coursework with on-campus residency weeks, so you can stay in your home region. It’s not a fully online program: synchronous sessions and fieldwork are mandatory. You’ll also be part of D’Youville’s interprofessional community, training alongside 15+ other health professions.

As a graduate of our OTD program, you’ll be prepared to practice at the doctoral level, with the leadership, research, and advocacy skills to grow into advanced practice roles beyond what an MS in Occupational Therapy provides.
COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS
Your OTD curriculum will build toward 24 weeks of Level II fieldwork and a culminating capstone project, giving you hands-on experience through D'Youville's nationwide fieldwork network as you prepare to practice at the doctoral level.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To apply to the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program, please complete the online application.
You'll need to submit:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities previously attended
- Completion of all required prerequisite courses which include: Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Statistics
- GRE Not Required
- One Letter of Recommendation
- Personal Statement
The faculty expects students to have basic computer skills in office productivity software (Microsoft Office), email, and online database/library searches. Students who lack any of these abilities should enroll in tutorials offered by the university or other institutions.
